Cancerian Psychology

As the month of July approaches, so does the astrological position of Cancer. Well-known is the fact that young children of all ages must be treated with love, nurturing and healthy guidelines to grow into secure adults. This is even more so with Cancer children. Ruled by the crab, those born under the Cancerian constellation (June 21st to July 22nd), guard themselves against the outside world with a similarly protective shell. Like the crab, they are cautious in their dealings with strangers, until they feel comfortable.

Typically the most emotionally sensitive of the zodiac, Cancers can become moody if they are not given the nurturing and security they crave-especially from their loved ones. Cancer is the sign of home and family life, and those born under its influence are tremendously loyal to, and influenced by, their family. They typically never speak ill of their family, and see nothing but good in those they love.

If ever betrayed, they forgive but never forget. They will use sulking as a weapon when hurt ( as opposed to directly attacking the offender).  The technique is somewhat like being whipped to death by a dozen strands of boiled spaghetti!. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which astrologically governs the emotions and intuition. Cancers are highly intuitive and often very artistic.

As the Moon influences the ocean tides, so can those born under sensitive Cancer's influence be prone to shifts in their emotions. They are fragile, affectionate, highly devoted when secure. If given the love and security they need by those they love, Cancers give their undying loyalty and their very best in return.

No one has ever said Cancerians are easy to understand. They may appear gentle, kind, sympathetic, and a patient listener. Then someone asks for advice, and they turn cranky, snappish, and appear to be completely indifferent to anyone's problems but their own. They may wallow in self-pity and complain endlessly about how mistreated they are by the world. Turn another page of the calendar and suddenly they are back being helpful, solicitous, ready to do anything asked .

What's their secret? Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon and has water as its element, can be likened to the shifting tides of the oceans. Like the tides, Cancer is the sign of powerful forces moving under the surface. That surface, however, is quite difficult to penetrate, for Cancerians tend to build up an elaborate array of defenses to hide their deep feelings and extreme sensitivity.

Complex, fragile, unpredictable, temperamental, the typical Cancerian needs constant support and encouragement. They want desperately to be loved and approved of but resent needing approval so badly. When they get what they need, they give the best they have in return. Those who make them feel secure command their undying loyalty. When they really care for someone there is nothing anyone can say about that person that will make the least bit of difference. They have a real blind spot when it comes to seeing a failing in those they love.

They tend to be a worrier and a silent brooder. People may pour out their hearts to them, but the flow never goes in the other direction!. They guard their secrets well.

Cancer's symbol, the crab, has a hard outer shell that protects soft, vulnerable flesh underneath. The same is true of Cancerians, who are often crusty, gruff and grumpy, but possess a proverbial heart of gold. Beneath their tough exterior they are a sentimental softie who will make any sacrifice for someone in need. If someone asks for a favor, their first reaction will probably be no, but the final answer is always yes. They should be judged not by what they say but by what they do.

For them wealth spells security, yet no matter how much wealth they accumulate they  never feel really secure. That is true of their emotional security also.ÊA cancerian never gets enough love and approval; they always need more. It is very easy to fall in love with this loyal, devoted, affectionate, and protective Moon-
